Goldman Sachs launches 10,000 Women Initiative!
This morning Melanne and I joined Goldman Sachs in launching their 10,000 Women Initiative. It was an extraordinary event - a sea of primarily businessmen in black suits talking about the importance of investing in women to build a better future for us all.
But it was an even more extraordinary commitment - over the next five years Goldman Sachs will provide 10,000 women with a business and management education.
Leading the charge on this path-breaking endeavor at Goldman Sachs is Dina Powell, new Vital Voices Board Member, Goldman Sachs Managing Director and the brain behind the successful Fortune/State Dept/Vital Voices International Women Leaders Mentoring program.
We are thrilled to be joining Goldman Sachs and a group of prestigious partners, including leading business schools - Harvard, Stanford and the like along with the American University in Cairo, Pan-African University in Nigeria - and many more. They will provide education and we will leverage that commitment by offering these 10,000 women leadership training, access to incredible mentoring opportunities by Goldman Sachs employees and access to our global network of women leaders so that these women can go back and share their experiences with others. This will create a multiplier effect so that the investment in 10,000 women becomes a million.
Listening to the Chairman and CE0 of Goldman Sachs, Lloyd Blankfield, speak passionately about his company’s new investment I thought - this is a new day for the women of the world. Certainly Goldman Sachs looks good today - but listening to him speak and reading through the study they released yesterday - “Women Hold up Half the Sky” it was clear that this was about much more than just looking or doing good - its about making a good investment- A smart business decision that will pay significant dividends for generations to come.

This is a wonderful initiative! I am ashamed that I only found out about it today in reading the July 21 issue of Fortune. I will definitely dedicate an entry to this in my blog. Way to go Goldman Sachs! And much luck and success Dina Powell.
