Vital Voices Making it Our Business Breast Cancer Awareness Program Expands in 2009

In October 2007, Vital Voices launched a new program in the Middle East entitled Making It Our Business: Breast Cancer Awareness (MIOB). This program aims at educating and raising the awareness of company employees on the risk factors of breast cancer. Several regionally based United States companies—from General Electric to Johnson & Johnson—as well as local charter companies in the region are participating. These partnerships will increase awareness on prevention both in the workplace and in their communication with consumers. Many companies now provide training to their staff and include helpful information for women in their marketing campaigns. In a region where many women may lack access to important information regarding their health, this program can save many lives. Continue Reading »

Building Awareness of Breast Cancer in Dubai

I volunteered to be one of the female trainers who have signed up to spread awareness about the breast cancer awareness program within the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry; in fact, I had been waiting for such opportunity to get to learn about it myself and to promote awareness among employees, family and friends.

I had a close and painful experience, as I watched my aunt suffer from breast cancer due to the lack of awareness and knowledge in a culture that awfully overlooks Breast Cancer to the extent that it does not even refer to it by name, but call it instead “the bad disease”.
